A few weeks ago Facebook Announced it has reached 2 billion users.
This is a huge number accomplishment especially when you consider there are 7.5 billion people alive today. This means that 26% of the population of the world is on Facebook.
if we go a little deeper you will find that this number is just the beginning of their accomplishment. On the website Internet World Stats, you will find that there are only 3.74 billion people who have access to the internet in the world today. This is just 45% of the world with internet access.
So Facebooks 2 billion users are actually 53% of the world’s population with Internet access.
This is simply an amazing accomplishment for Facebook.

Of the 8 top social platforms in terms of the number of users, Facebook actually owns 4 of them. They are:
- Facebook Messenger
As you can see Facebook is doing very well in terms of users on its platforms. For marketers, it is an amazing time in history as Facebook allows us to reach our clients on Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.
We are able to place an ad on the Facebook Ads platform and choose which property those ads are displayed. We can choose between Facebook, Instagram or Facebook Messenger.
I am sure in the future Facebook will give us the ability to show ads or reach people on the WhatsApp platform too.
Well done Facebook. You achieved a first. There is no other platform with so many users and definitely no other platform with so many engaged users.
I suggest if you haven’t started advertising on Facebook then you start ASAP as the future is bright and the numbers are only going to get bigger.
