Should I Hire A Facebook Ads Consultant?

This week I was at the Facebook Marketing Meetup in Brisbane and I received the following question from the audience, “Should I Hire A Facebook Ads Consultant or Should I Do It Myself?”

I thought about it for a few seconds, and then I responded with the following.

I believe there are two types of people out there:

  1. The DIYers
  2. The Done-For-Youers

There are pros and cons to both, so to help you make an informed decision I want to explain why you would and wouldn’t go with each approach.

DIY Facebook Ads

There are two main reasons people want to do their Facebook Ads in-house:

  1. They can’t afford to hire a Facebook Ads consultant
  2. They want to retain the knowledge in house and have control over their campaigns

Pros

The benefits of doing the Facebook Ads yourself is that you keep the knowledge of how to execute campaigns in-house.  Whether you’re a small business owner or a business with a marketing department, when you learn to implement Facebook Ads campaigns you have total control over the process.

You can also be agiler because you can think of a campaign and run it within hours.

Cons

The negative aspect of running campaigns yourself is there is a very steep learning curve to learn how to run successful campaigns. It could take you anywhere from 6-12 months to get fantastic results from Facebook.

There are so many moving parts including:

  1. Finding your niche
  2. Finding their #1 pain point
  3. Crafting the perfect offer
  4. Targeting
  5. Testing
  6. Optimising
  7. The ad Copy
  8. The ad image
  9. Arranging your adsets and campaigns
  10. Facebook Ad funnels
  11. All the different types of campaigns you can run

These are just a small selection of what you need to master to the process.

Now it is possible to get it right? Definitely, but it takes time, and you want to get some training. The best way to learn is from someone who not only runs campaigns every day but also is an excellent communicator.

It’s important that they are not just a trainer, but also a consultant because what works on Facebook is changing almost daily and you need to learn the strategies that are working today.

Done For You Facebook Ads

Some people want it just done for them and don’t want the hassle of learning to use the platform. The reasons people want a done for you service are:

  1. They don’t have the time to learn the platform
  2. They want to get spectacular results quickly

Pros

One of the advantages of getting a Facebook Ads consultant to run your campaigns for you is that you will get results fast. It usually takes anywhere from 1-3 months to get campaigns optimised with a consultant.

A consultant should have experience across industries, with successful and unsuccessful campaigns. They will draw on this knowledge to build the best strategy for you to be successful ASAP. And if things don’t work instantly they will know what to test, what to change and what to keep.

Facebook Ads can drastically increase the sales in your business. But only if it’s done right. Hiring an experienced Facebook Ads consultant is your best chance to get it right quickly.

Cons

The disadvantage of using a consultant is that you don’t retain the knowledge in house. For some, this is a negative, but for many businesses, this is a benefit. There is so much to focus on in a business, so if there is something that can be outsourced, it gives more time to concentrate on another area.

Of course, if you have an outstanding Facebook Consultant, they will cost neutral. When you add their fee, and the Facebook Ad spend you should be making many multiples of that sum in return.

Conclusion

There are many reasons you would and wouldn’t hire a Facebook Ads Consultant. When making a decision on which way to go, consider your business requirements and your goals.

In summary, if you want to keep the knowledge in-house, do a good course and get some coaching. If you want results fast, then hire a Facebook Ads Consultant.
